May Bath Renovation

The only full bath in the upstairs of a 1920s home in downtown Southern Pines got a complete overhaul. We traded in the 80’s brass fixtures, linoleum floors and dated oak vanity for classic chrome, subway tile and carrera marble to create a classic, 1920s cottage style look.

Most of the room was demolished including the floor. PVC wainscoting for durability in wet conditions was installed and finished in the same paint color as the trim. A custom vanity we designed was built and installed by Quality Cabinet Co. and topped with a piece of classic carrera marble. The vanity was outfitted with new hardware and the sink topped off with a new polished nickel faucet that suits the time period.

The original six-panel door remains with the original hardware but all new baseboard and trim were installed.

One of our favorite parts of this transformation is definitely the built-in cabinet that took an awkward, unused space in the corner to a cabinet and open shelving great for storage. In every project, we are always looking for opportunities to maximize the usage of the space, whether it’s an apartment of 2,500 square foot home.

The odd bath tub on a platform to hide it’s plumbing was removed entirely. In it’s place, we installed a white subway tiled shower and new tub. We added shower niches for and a ceiling mounted shower rain can.

A new hexagonal tile on the floor with light grey grout is a choice that is both classic and updated.

Mount Vernon House

The Mount Vernon House, Six apartments located at 355 North Ashe St. Southern Pines, NC

The Mount Vernon House was built at the turn of the century as a boarding house where residents could climb to the top of the cupola and view the arrival of friends and family arriving at the downtown train depot.

This beautiful monolith was completely renovated from top to bottom in 2006, the main house contains six apartments and is located at 355 North Ashe Street in downtown Southern Pines, NC. The Mount Vernon House is undoubtedly our most popular property.

Each apartment has features that make it unique. Apartments #2 and #3 are two bedroom units, the remaining apartments are one bedroom and Apartment #5 is an open, studio apartment which houses the cupola for starry sky views from your bed. All units are have an electric heat source.

Up the stairs to the second level is where you’ll find the entry to No. 5, but the apartment is actually on the third level. No. 5 is a modern loft design with a partitioned sleeping area.
